I was 18 in Madison Wisconsin when we awoke one morning to find hundreds of pink plastic flamingos blanketing Bascom Hill, one of the many perfectly timed pranks pulled by the Pail & Shovel party who led us with humor & pleasant nonsense.

Thanks, I never knew any of this, but it’s great. As a kid in Florida it was always exciting to see the flamingoes in yards but, would you believe it, my parents flatly refused to buy them. Something about taste? I have my own flamingos now, but my husband insists they remain in the back yard.

Awesome! A house down the street always puts out a large number of flamingos with Santa hats every Christmas season. It’s a hoot!
