His art is without a doubt more akin to how Picasso’s work impacted and yet was so obviously a reflection of the world in which it was created. Powerful and of this time and destined to be recognized as perhaps the best of his generation. But great in any case.
Such a great article. I know Murakami a bit but didn't really know that much about his work and definitely didn't know about Pom's role in the work! Love it.
I loved learning about Murakami. He and his work were new to me. It's been three years since Pom died. Do you know if he decided to share his life with another dog?
Pets, with constant stay, occupy a unique place in our lives. With no hate from them, they occupy a place that humans may not do it consistently.

I never quite responded to his art but his sculptures ‘Pom & Me’ are really the epitome of cuteness! 🥹🫶
I came for the wee pup and stayed for the education. Thanks! (RIP little Pom) ♥️
Love this. I saw Murakami's show in LA a little while ago and felt the joy of his work, so nice to read about him and Pom.
The next Substack post I read after this one is a fitting segue way! https://open.substack.com/pub/heathercoxrichardson/p/december-8-2023?r=7br47&utm_medium=ios&utm_campaign=post
These childhood pictures are so adorable
